Do I need to fill out a form before I arrive in Jamaica?

Yes. Every passenger has to complete the electronic C5 Immigration and Customs Declaration at enterjamaica.gov.jm. It is free, and you should do it the day before you travel rather than standing in the hall trying to fill it in on airport wifi. You will get a confirmation to show at the immigration desk. If you are flying in from a country with yellow fever or cholera risk (much of South and Central America), you stop at the Ministry of Health desk for a quick interview first, so keep your documents handy.

How long does it take to get through immigration at MBJ?

On a quiet day you can be through immigration and customs in twenty to thirty minutes. On a busy one it takes longer. The heaviest arrival months are March, June, July, August and December, and July is the busiest of all. If you land midday in high season, expect the immigration line to be long.

A few things move you along: have your passport and C5 confirmation ready, grab one of the complimentary luggage carts after immigration, and keep the family together in one line. Customs is usually a walk-through unless an officer waves you over for a second look, which is normal and quick.

Where do I find my driver after customs?

You come out into the Ground Transportation and Arrivals Hall, and that is where the whole island opens up. Taxis, hotel shuttles, car rental desks and information agents are all right there past the customs doors. There are cambios if you want to change money, though most drivers, tours and resorts take US dollars and card just fine.

Ocho Rios runs about ninety minutes to two hours to the east. Kingston, over the mountains, is closer to three to four hours depending on the route.
