Flight Delayed Into Montego Bay? What Happens to Your Transfer

If your flight into Montego Bay is delayed, your transfer is not lost. We watch the flight number, so when the arrival time moves, the pickup time moves with it. You do not need to rebook, and you do not need to go hunting for a ride at the curb at midnight.

Do I need to call you when my flight is delayed?

No. When you book, you give us your airline and flight number, and that is what we follow. If your flight out of Miami or Toronto pushes back two hours, we usually see the new arrival time before you have even boarded.

A message is still welcome, and there is one case where it matters: if the airline rebooks you onto a different flight. A new flight number is the one thing our tracking cannot guess. So a normal delay, sit tight and enjoy the airport wifi. A new flight number, tell us.

How long will the driver actually wait?

Longer than most people expect. Once your plane is in the air, the driver plans around the landing time, not the time printed on your booking. And landing is not the same as walking out. You still have immigration, then bags, then customs, and on a busy afternoon when three or four big flights come in together, that stretch can eat an hour on its own.

Our drivers know that gap and they plan for it. Nobody is standing at the exit with a stopwatch. What helps us most is a quick message once you clear customs, so we know you are about to walk out and can meet you rather than guess.

What if my flight is cancelled or diverted?

This is the case where we do need to hear from you. In rough weather a Montego Bay flight can get diverted to Kingston, and cancellations sometimes put you on the first departure the next morning. Either way, message us as soon as the airline tells you.

All we need is your new arrival details so we can put a driver on the right day. If you do end up landing in Kingston, say so early, because that is a different pickup and a much longer drive, roughly three and a half to four hours across to the north coast.

Is it safe to drive to my resort at night?

Yes, with a driver who runs the route regularly. This is the real worry behind the question, and it is a fair one. Outside the towns our roads are not well lit, potholes are hard to see after dark, and the corners come up faster than a visitor expects. A first-time visitor alone in a rental car at ten at night is in a genuinely harder spot than the same person at ten in the morning.

Our drivers do these roads in the dark as often as in daylight. Montego Bay hotels are usually fifteen to thirty minutes from the airport. Negril is about an hour and a half. Ocho Rios is around two hours on the north coast road, which is a good road and the one we take. A late landing shortens your first evening. It does not turn the drive into a problem.

Should I cancel my first-day excursion?

If you land three or four hours behind schedule, look at the next morning instead of the same afternoon. The ones to check on are the excursions with fixed departure times. A catamaran cruise leaves when it leaves. Luminous Lagoon runs on the dark, not on your schedule.

Message us and we will tell you straight whether the timing still works. Moving an excursion to another day of your trip is usually simple. Racing across the island to catch the last twenty minutes of something is almost never worth it.

What about a delay on the way home?

Departure day works the other way around. Your transfer time is set by your flight, and if the outbound is delayed, you are usually still better off heading to the airport. Sangster has food, air conditioning and a bar past security, and airlines have a habit of fixing a delay faster than they announced it.

If your flight gets pushed many hours or moved to the next day, tell us and we will get you back to a hotel. In hurricane season that call comes up more often than you would think.

So what should I actually do?

Book the ride, give us the flight number, and let the delay be the airline problem instead of yours. That is most of what a private transfer buys you: somebody already on the ground in Jamaica who knows your plane is late before you can send the message.
